With a rise in the number of COVID cases, people are raising concerns. When will widespread immunization start? When will we find a cure for this disease? Even WHO has now given a node to the testing of African herbal medicine to fight the COVID pandemic.
It’s a great option to research other areas of medicines to curb this disease, which is continuously engulfing many people around the world. Traditional medicine that turns out to be effective against COVID will be manufactured on a large scale.
WHO has clearly warned and forbidden people from using any medicine that has not been tested to treat the disease. Despite this, a leader of Madagascar is entirely positive that his untested product is effective against coronavirus disease. New rules were created by WHO in order to ensure that scientists of Africa conduct proper testing and trials of medicines before distributing among the masses.
A large number of vaccines are developed and dozens of them are being tested on people, but people are still waiting for a potential drug that could end this menace.
For phase III clinical trials, African traditional medicines can be used. Permission has been granted by WHO, the African union commission for social affairs, and Africa center for diseases control and prevention.
Prof Motlalepula Gilbert Matsabisa, chairman of the panel, said, “If the technical documents get accepted, this will prove that African herbal medicines are effective against the treatment of COVID-19 without harming any patient”.
When west Africa saw the outbreak of deadly Ebola, it strengthened its health system and Research and Development Programs. Something that other countries should follow to cope up with this situation.
Andry Rajoelina, the president of Madagascar, commenced COVID-Organics as medicine for the treatment of COVID. It is a tonic derived from the artemisia plant used as an ingredient in malaria treatment. This product was developed in the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research. She is optimistic that this medicine can be used as a remedy, .but this medicine was not accepted by people because of its less effectiveness.
The increasing number of COVID patients worldwide is compelling doctors and researchers to start testing traditional herbal medicines. It’s better to be safe than sorry; the herbal medication for the treatment of COVID-19 should undergo proper scientific trials before being distributed among the public.
