A pile of used Personal Protective Equipments(PPE) dumped carelessly on the arrival level of airports, which has left a section of passengers, some of them from a medical fraternity horrified. Apart from being an eyesore ,they flagged more serious concerns about possibility of virus spreading at the terminal from contaminated body suits, face-sheilds and hand gloves discarded callously by arriving passengers. These used PPE can be considered as biohazards waste.
Wearing PPE made of synthetic material does not allow air to panetrate, leaving the person wearing it hot and sweaty. But still passengers have to wear it to avoid contraction from virus. Once the journey is over, passengers try to remove it quickly not only out of concerns that droplets from fellow passengers may have got on the suit, but also because it is extremely uncomfortible to wear PPE . This is a major matter of concern and there is a need to take steps against it as soon as possible.
We can do such things in order to overcome this coming trouble-
— single use PPE should be discarded in closed waste bins linked with yellow plastic bags.
— used PPE should be labeled “infectious”.
— PPE waste should be sanitized with sodium chloride solution before they are allowed to mix with other waste.
— the PPE can then be land-filled or burnt in a non-hazardous incinerator facility.
— PPE dumped carelessly at airports , these discarded PPE being put into a waste bin.
