A case of negligence has been reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur Dehat district, where a woman was given two shots of the COVID-19 vaccine, while the nurse was busy on a phone call. The incident took place on Saturday, 3rd April 2021, at a government primary health center (PHC) at the Akbarpur area of Kanpur Dehat district.
When the woman questioned the nurse about the two vaccine doses, the nurse firstly denied the same, and then meandered her, instead of apologizing.
What’s the matter?
Kamlesh Kumari, a woman of around 50 years of age had gone to get vaccinated against COVID-19 in a local government health center on Saturday, 3rd April. According to the guidelines of the Health Ministry, the first dose of the vaccine was to be administered on the same day, whereas the second dose a few weeks later, depending upon the vaccine she was given.
However, because of the serious negligence of the nurse who was attending Kamlesh Kumari, the woman ended up receiving both the doses of vaccine on the same day itself.
What happened to the woman?
When Kamlesh Kumari gave this news to her family members, they immediately went to the same vaccination center and created an uproar over there. They informed the chief medical officer, the district magistrate, and other senior officials about the incident.
According to the family members, Kamlesh Kumari experienced a mild swelling on her arm (where the vaccine shot was administered), but fortunately, no serious symptoms were reported.
DM orders probe
Serious cognizance actions were taken over the case of negligence and carelessness by the District Magistrate, Jitendra Pratap. The Chief Medical Officer of the district has been asked to submit a fact-finding report, after thoroughly enquiring about the incident.
In this case, fortunately, the woman didn’t experience any serious health issues/side effects. This incident is a learning lesson for all, which teaches us to stay vigilant whenever we or any of our family members go for vaccination. Always accompany elderly family members, while they go for vaccination because they might not even realize that they have got shot multiple times. So, stay vigilant while going for vaccination.
